Slack was launched in February 2013… And that was the beginning of their meteoric rise to fame. So they decided to turn their internal project into a proper product, put it on the market, and see what happens. And they were convinced that if other people tried it, they’d feel the same way. At that time, the folks realized that none of them wanted to work without a communication app like that ever again. It was time to shut down the game and start looking for jobs. In fact, they were a game development company, working on a game called Glitch, and the only reason they decided to build a team communication app was that they wanted to streamline communication for their own team. Stewart Butterfield, who you might know as one of the co-founders of Flickr, didn’t anticipate any of this when he and his team created what we now know as Slack. Slack was never expected to be the wildly popular app that it is now.
